FAQs

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • How do you define coaching?

1 to 1 coaching is a reflective process providing you with a safe space to think, reflect, find clarity and make better decisions.

Coaching promotes self-discovery through self-directed learning, stimulated by the coach.

Coaching aims to deliver optimal performance at work by empowering people through facilitation to acquire new knowledge, develop new skills and build new behaviours.

It is goal orientated with a focus on setting objectives and identifying actions that deliver personal growth and improved performance.

  • Is the coaching confidential?

Yes 1 to 1 coaching is confidential.

The idea is to create a safe confidential space for you to be able to share whatever you want to and to allow you to speak freely, with no judgement.

There may be some agreed progress updates to line managers or HR, but this would be agreed with you and would contain only information you are happy to share.

I am guided by the Association for Coaching Code of Ethics

  • What is team coaching?

I describe team coahcing as follows:

Team Coaching is…partnering with an entire team, to help them improve their culture and performance, through reflection and open dialogue to grow long term team capability and the capacity to create value for their stakeholders.

The coach works with the team to enable it to:

    • Align on common purpose

    • Collaborate and learn as a diverse team

    • Develop collective leadership

    • Achieve performance objectives

    • Effectively engage with their key stakeholder groups

  • How does team coaching work?

The process is usually as follows:

First we aim to gain an understanding of the team and team dynamics, through interviews, a brief questionnaire and observing the team, usually in a team meeting.

Then there would be a coach led introductory session(s) to talk about how the coaching sessions would work and to:

    • Develop a team contract or charter on how the team wants to behave and work with one another
    • Review and agree Team Purpose
    • Make sure the Roles and Objectives of the team are clear
    • Review the teams' Strengths, Resources, and levels of Support from outside the team
    • Identify key External Stakeholders
    • Highlight initial areas of Tension, current Strengths & Opportunity for improvement

There would then be coaching sessions as a team to help identify and clarify objectives and then to find solutions and agree action plans

As part of the process the team would be learning how to operate in a optimum way:

    to coach each other

to operate within the guidelines of the team charter

to develop a culture with high levels of pyschological safety

With ultimate aim of developing collective leadership and an agile learning mentality

  • Do you provide online coaching?

Yes we are happy to provide coaching online.

A lot of our coaching and mentoring sessions are online now.

It works really well from an effectiveness point of view and is better for both convenience and effeciency when fitting in sessions during a busy working day or week.

  • Do you offer a free introductory session?

Yes, we are are happy to offer a free 20 to 30 minute introductory session or chemistry meeting.

This allows you to find out more about your coach and coahcing and to check there is a good fit. Its a chance to ask questions of your coach and for the coach to get to know more about you.

  • How long is a typical session?

A typical session is one and half hours. This is the optimum time for making progress in a coaching session. We can discuss shorter sessions of a minimum of one hour or up to 2 hours.

  • How long a gap should I leave between sessions?

Ideally this should be 2 to 3 weeks, and usually no more than a month, unless circumstances require it.

We recommend no more than a two week gap between the first 2 sessions to allow for rapport and momentum to be built up. The final decision is up to you and the coach.

  • How many sessions do you recommend?

Typically we complete netween 6 and 10 sessions. 6 is usually the minimum we complete, but sometimes people may have a very specific focus that requires fewer sessions.
